You Have Now Entered...La Zone

          Sitting in class is such a tedious task sometimes.  I mean  really. How often have you sat in class and the prof is talking, talking, talking, pointing once and a while to a power point on the board...and then all of a sudden you wake up. Whether or not you were actually asleep is besides the point, you were definitely 'out' for an unknown length of time. Sometimes you check the clock or your computer to try and make an estimate of how long you were out for, but then realize you have no idea when you slipped into the unconscious to begin with.

          Today I was favoring the escape (spelled just like "escape") method of the day dream. Day dreaming, I find, can be the most effective way to zone out. It definitely has more pluses than outright sleeping and is more effective in its camouflage during class. You are able to stare straight at the prof or powere point and not be too obvious that your mind is no where near the topic of the Spanish Inquisition, lab rat test trials, or great British literary writers of the 20th century.

          Now I know that some of you are simply horrified that I sometimes...multi-task in iclass. Fear not, I always get notes taken and depending on the class, there might be a chance that I have recorded the lecture.

         Some of my best work has occurred while daydreaming. And by work I mean artwork or observational musings. Let me tell you what I mean. In my Humanities course during lecture one day last year I sketched figures/caricatures of the profs who were speaking and captioned them to fit their personality. I was really happy with my work until I remembered that the journal in which I drew these guys was in a journal I had to turn in to my section prof in the class...and he knew all the others profs. Luckily when the time came to hand it in, he didn't really care or comment on them. I also get distracted in art lectures for that course. I see the pieces we're studying and I start drawing my own version of them. Sometimes they turn out great, other times...not so much.

          Other than artwork and little scribbles and sketches I think it's fun to pay attention to the prof themselves. Haha that sounded like "DUH!" But here's what I mean: you're listening to the lecture or watching the power point right but every once and a while you notice this thing that your prof does with his/her hands or an inflection in their voice...and then moments later you notice the same thing again, and again. And the from then on you're counting the number of times they touch the projector screen to point something out or the number of times they ask, "Are you guys getting this?".

          I'm not really going anywhere prophetic with this or coming to an all encompassing earth-shattering conclusion, just that taking small breaks from the present each day can be very informative and can give you very much needed breathers. Not to mention you get to visit your childhood and play make-believe for a few minutes while everyone else toils over Emerson and confounding factors in an experiment.

Stopping by to Say Hi!

       So I know that I've not written in a while, and I don't even know if anyone has noticed, but just in case there is anyone out there who is thinking, "Oh man, I wish she'd write something else. She's a genius and is not contributing to the better of society when she doesn't blog for a month." Do not worry. I will be back again soon. I am currently tied up with the holidays, finals, and the Festival of Christmas concert at my university. All of which are extremely time consuming and frankly, exhaustive. 

       In conclusion, altogether, finally, in all, count on a really detailed and all-encompassing blog in about two or two and a half weeks when I'm on break. Stay tuned!

Free Write

So today I am electing to free write. This means I will be typing everything that pops into my head-penguin-without stopping to formulate a story or anecdote about it.

So I don't really know what to start out with, but I was considering describing my desk, but then that would be REALLY dumb...Last week I did really well on a process write for my Humanities class. It was on Mary Rowlandson and we had to write a story in her style of writing. It was really fun. I really like creative writing.

I have had a hugely busy week this past one. I mean NOT EVEN KIDDING. I took a screen shot of my calendar on my computer at the beginning of the week and it was five different colors, overlapping events, and at least two major things happening each day, not counting normal things like classes and meals and homework. OMG, so much!

I recently found a new artist I love: Jamie Cullum. This is funny because he's an English/British jazz artist and I swore I''d never like jazz, I hated the music up until I heard his song called "Twentysomething". My new favorite! Another think I recently discovered was Amazon.com. I'd never really looked into the possibilities of the site before. I knew what it was but never had any reason to actually use it. Well, let me tell you, there are some good deals on there! As well as crappy-why-would-you-ever-pay-money-for-this items too. But now I keep getting suggestions for more stuff I should buy or that I might "be interested in" from the website, and I'm like, "Leave me alone!" Anywho...

I've been wanting to make a video with my friends so I can use my editing stuff on my Mac, but I just haven't found the perfect story board for it yet. Actually funny thing I should think of making videos because me and my friend last year came up with a great story line for a YouTube video: how different things would be in movies or plays if the character just had cell phones. Take for example Romeo and Juliet, those kids could have at least had a decent shot at love if they could just text each other til 2 in the morning. Or take It's A Wonderful Life. That guy in it would have never gotten as far as the bridge if someone would have just called him to see where he was. But then again then that angel guys wouldn't have had the chance to get his wings by saving him then. That one's a toss up I guess. Princess Bride would have been a lot different, not to mention shorter, all of these would be a lot shorter. Probably more like a commercial.

So back to my point of the last paragraph. ( I TOLD you it was going to be random.) The other day we found out that someone had already stole our idea and made a video on that exact subject recently. Sad day we said.

I'm really tired and I have to work again tomorrow so I'm going to head out. Peace yo! Just kidding I don't say that in real life. More like "talk to you later" except for changing the first "t" to "type" so it would really mean "type to you later!" Okay, I'm really going now.
